Road to Perdition

This is a good film. The quality of this film changes person to person according to your wishes from a film. If you want to be grasped by a real adventure this is for you. If if you are bored of guns and mafias the film may not satisfy you. Yes there are many clichés in this film. The good side of the film is this: although the clichés actors and excitement of the events can create enjoyment.

Tom Hanks is a cool mafia in the film. Jude Law is a serial killer. Although we can't see Jude Law too much he is great at his brutish role. Tyler Hoechlin is a very talented boy. He roles as good as his father(Hanks). The most impressive actor is of course Paul Newman. Determined,brusque,fatherly... He is nominated to Oscar by his great performance. But the film had Oscar by its cinematography.

Film passes in 1931. The decors are wonderful that makes you feel like you are really in 1931.

If you like old times and adventure and great actors I recommend you to watch Road to Perdition. Only bad side of the film is its poster. Its very dark even for a mafia movie.

Under The Tuscan Sun

A film that full of wonderful images from beautiful Italy. Like all Mediterranean countries Italy presents you cheer of life with its heavenly nature. Sea,sun, olive trees, history in every corner... In this film we see an unhappy American woman just like many other films. The woman has an unhappy marriage and like all divorced American women she cast herself to Italy. We saw the same thing in Julia Roberts' Eat,Pray,Love too.

I think Italy is especially choosen by American film makers because of its sexuality. Handsome guys, wonderful shores, gorgeous food, and brilliant landscpe... All these things are just simple elements for preparing an erotic scene to the American film maker. Actually you can hardly find any warm feelings belong to humanity in all these Hollywood movies passing in Europe. All of them offers you sex.
Americans can't catch the warmness of life even in our beautiful Mediterranean lands. The only good side that Hollywood can extract from all kindness of life is sex.

Under The Tuscan Sun has various characters. Americans,Polish workers,Italians,gays,girls,boys,teens,adults... You can't focus on one character and it makes you feel scattered. Diane Lane is a good actress. I liked her very much when she was crazily happy after slept with Marcello the Italian. She was happy for being lusted by a man although her old age.

When she was about to buy a house from Italy the Italian landlady was waiting for a sign from God to sell her house. At that moment a pigeon's shit fell down to Frances' head. This was a sign of good luck in Italian culture. It amazed me because it is the same in Turkish culture too.

Old houses, olive collecters, shores and happy people of Italy are just like Agean Turks.

To see similiarities between Italy and Turkey by an American movie is an irony of fate.

Shooting Dogs

A film about genocide in Rwanda. Film's based on a true story. Story teller is a BBC worker in Rwanda. First of all this film is striking. You feel a deep sorrow at the end of the movie. In sensual way I can say this film is a good one. Of course every film about such a tragedy will effect all viewers. But there are some sides of this movie to criticise. The cricism of this movie can not be without a criticism of Western culture.

It is obvious that United Nations has a big responsibility on the genocide. Perhaps U.N. has equal guilt with Hutus. We all know that western countries have a great effect on U.N. This genocide has to be a big issue for West's philosophy to judge itself. They failed on being at the side of humanity just before in Bosnia by ignoring murders of Serbs agains Muslims. To understand West's humanity conception we can look at popular photographer Kevin Carter who won Pulitzer in 1994 by a photo showing a starving toddler whom a vulture landed nearby.

West knows that it's wrong to let a murder. But they do nothing to prevent the death unless the murdered one is a white Christian. Soon they can film all that shaming events for making money by that movie.

Let's turn back to the movie. It is ironic that all Europeans escape from the school where refugees stay but the father Christopher. I think it is just for glorifying Christianity. Hugh Dancy shows a great performance as a teacher in Rwanda. It crushed me to see him escaping with all the other ones.

Finally i see that Europeans or briefly West is always two-faced when it comes to humanism. Thanks to producer of this movie for his baldness about mirroring West in a great clearness.
